Characteristics
Plants
growing gregoriously in dense tufts upto 30 or more in a cluster attached
to substratum by rhizoids; rhizoids remfied, fully developed plants
with an eret cylindrical stem-like portion, the stipe which is annlarly
constricted throughout from base to the begining of head-like portion
the capitumum; stipe usually unbranched bu occasionally branched;
young stipe with no constrictions but as they grow annular constrictions
appear. Upper free end of stipe in young plants slightly swollen from
where whorls of filaments emerges to form the capitulum; length of
stipe before capitulum is formed upto 5 cm. In mature plants stipe
upto 6 cm generally and even upo 7-9 cm length; filments upto 125µ
acoss. Capitulum upto 2 cm in diameter across the short axis and 3
cm along the long axis, dark green in colour on the upper side and
light grey on the lower side.
